Students,
As a culminating activity, we will have a Colonial Days celebration in approximately two to three weeks to showcase your hard work! You will get to dress up as someone from the Revolutionary War period. Parents will be invited. (More details to follow.) These are the required assignments. You may work alone, or with a partner. A major part of your social studies grade for this quarter will be based on your class participation, and completion of these projects. There will also be a test which the class helps to design. See the grading information at the bottom of this page for further information.
You will have two weeks to complete these activities.


You must complete A, B (Choose one) and C (Choose two).


You will have several class periods to work on these activities. You will also have to work on some of these at home.

A) Students will need to post at least one test question to the class blog, at least two days before the test date. You may also add feedback to other students' questions. Be respectful of your classmates' ideas. Try to add positive or constructive feedback, rather than negative comments.

B) You will need to do one of these three graphic organizers. (Print out the graphic organizer sheet by opening the file. Right click on the page. Be sure to change the properties section to black and white before you print it.)

Complete the timeline with important events from the American Revolution.

2)

Compare and contrast the American soldiers to the British soldiers of the American Revolution.

3)

Choose a famous person who lived during the Revolutionary Period. Complete the Character Biography.

C) You will need to complete two of these activities.

1) Create a project about a famous person from this era, using this link: Famous Person Project

2) Make Your Own Newspaper Article Write an article about one of the battles of the American Revolution, or a famous person who lived during the Revolution. See the teacher about posting it to this website, or printing it.
3) Write a book report. Student will read a selection from any genre about the Revolution (i.e. – biography, poem, historical fiction, nonfiction). The book report should be one page in length, and should tell the Title and Author. Then give a two to three paragraph summary. Be sure to include the main idea and details. Then, in the final paragraph, discuss your feelings about the selection, and if you would recommend it to others. You may write this or type it on the computer. Be sure to proofread for errors in the spelling and mechanics.
4) Student will choose a writing genre and write a piece about the American Revolution (poem, story, article, descriptive paragraph, biography, informative paragraph, historical fiction story, etc.) Be sure to proofread for errors in spelling and mechanics.
5) Timeline: Student will identify at least four events of the Revolutionary War period in chronological order. You may use the dipity program to create a technology piece, or you may make some other type of visual timeline.

6) Famous People of the Revolution, or Events of the Revolution - Use Flash Card Machine or other tool: Student will give the names and significance of at least five people who lived during this period, or at least 5 events.
7) Make a poster or visual display: Give at least three factors/events leading up to the start of the Revolutionary War.

8) Post to the Freedom Blog. Make at least one entry on what freedom means to you.
9) Make a diorama depicting a scene from some aspect of colonial life, the Revolutionary battles, meetings to discuss the war, lives of famous people, or other happenings of historical significance from this time period.
10) Choose a project of your own that is not listed here, You could use some form of technology such as a Web 2.0 Tool. (You can do a Google Search to learn more about Web 2.0 Tools.) Or this could be a project that doesn't use educational technology. (Be sure to get approval from the teacher.)
